Coronavirus: Supply-Chain Impact and How It May Affect Tattooing
You can't really go anywhere, or visit any news or social media site these days without hearing about the Coronavirus (or COVID-19) outbreak. A fast spreading respiratory disease, Coronavirus originated in China causing widespread factory shutdowns and restrictions on travel and exports due to government efforts to contain the spread of the virus. The result of slow-downs in manufacturing and exports have started to creep into the tattoo industry. Here's what we know so far, and how we're trying to minimize the impact on you.
It's no secret that a good portion of the disposable products you use in your shop come from manufacturers based in China. Whether it's pre-made tattoo needles (almost all brands, from all suppliers) and ink caps or the quality medical products you rely on for set up and tear down like rinse cups and drape sheets, many of these items are sourced from China. Factory closures, or in some cases increased demand for a specific product in the fight against the Coronavirus (masks for instance), have raised the potential for delays in getting products into stock.
Our team is constantly monitoring the news here and abroad. We're staying in communication with our manufacturing partners, and doing our best to work around these delays before they become a problem for you, our customers. If you have any questions about potential product delays, please call, email or chat our Customer Service Team for assistance.
Current Delays:
(as of March 6th, 2020)
Griffin Tubes
Our Griffin Tubes were scheduled to ship in early February (immediately after the Chinese New Year), however our manufacturer was still closed last week. The shipment is now on the way, but the extended delay means we'll be out of stock on some sizes until they arrive in-house.
We're currently working to have some of the higher-demand configurations of Griffin tubes air shipped to us in order to shorten the period of time we'll be out of stock. Please watch for updates here, and on our social media pages..
Hydra Needles
Our Hydra needles were scheduled to ship in early February, however our manufacturer was still closed up until last week. As a result of the extended closure, Hydra Needle production is behind schedule.
We're currently awaiting word as to when our needles will be back in production. Once manufacturing is up and running, our goal is to have a quantity air shipped to reduce the time in transit.
Self-Standing Pigment Caps (sizes 11 & 14)
Our clear pigment caps were scheduled to ship in early February, however, due to the prolonged factory closures, they'll now ship in early March for arrival at our warehouse at the end of March.
Don't worry we've got you covered: We've made a special one-time purchase of our original White pigment caps to hold you over until our clear caps are back in stock later this month. (We also carry Quick Caps and Hive Caps)
Defend Breath EZ Safety Mask
With demand for EZ Safety masks at an all-time high, coupled with export restrictions in place, Defend is unable fill our orders at this time.
We're kind of stuck here unfortunately. We've reached out to a number of mask companies, none of whom are able to supply us with masks. We've even had a couple of companies contact us looking for stock we would be willing to sell. We'll keep working on it - but in the meantime, watch for updates.
We'll keep you posted as things change, so stay tuned. Again, we encourage you to reach out to our Customer Service Team via email, phone or our chat feature if you have any further questions or concerns.

NOTE: The majority of products sourced from China have a long journey to Canada, and are essentially being quarantined while in transit.
