Empire Tattoo Ink Wash Systems
Empire Inks manufactures pre-mixed wash series for black-and-grey work. Each 4-stage system, graywash, whitewash, and blackwash, gives you graduated tones that stay consistent bottle to bottle. You set your depth once and the value holds across the session. No mixing from a single black, no guessing ratios, no variation between batches.
The graywash series uses black pigment in clear carrier with no white. Transparent shadow grey that heals cool. Empire white wash ink adds a small amount of white to the graywash formula, semi-opaque milky grey that goes in like a wash but heals like soft opaque grey. Blackwash is the newest line with higher pigment load and zero white. Graduated dark-black palette for dark realism and blackwork shading. Each Empire ink grey wash set includes four stages: Xtra Light, Light, Medium, Dark.
Single Black Empire Inks
Empire makes four single blacks named after traditional fine-art pigment families. Classic Black is cool and medium viscosity, all-purpose. Vine Black runs warm and thin with slight transparency, built for lining and can be diluted to graywash. Mars Black is thick, slightly warm, and opaque for packing large areas with a curved magnum bugpin or mags. Ivory Black is Empire's darkest single black with solid saturation. Each formula behaves differently in the skin. Artists stock multiple blacks to match the job.
Empire Ink Colors and Supplies
Empire's color series includes ten pre-mixed ink colors built as a limited-palette mixing system. Cadmium yellows, reds, and oranges plus phthalo and ultramarine blues, alizarin crimson, burnt and raw umber, and yellow ochre. The pitch is ten inks mix over 100 colours using traditional oil-painter palette logic, ideal for use with tattoo liner needles and other precision tools. Titanium White is Empire's single white, twice the pigment, undiluted with water.
Empire also sells the components of its carrier system as standalone bottles. Glaze is the same medium they use to cut the graywash series. Glycerin, propylene glycol, and witch hazel (alcohol-free) are available separately. You can adjust viscosity or build custom dilutions using the same carrier Empire uses in their own formulas.
Safe and Consistent Ink Manufacturing
Empire Inks manufactures in Neenah, Wisconsin in a sterile facility using EU-certified pigment dispensing equipment. Every batch is weighed, dispersed, blended, and colour-matched with the same process. The 4-stage graywash set launched in 2012 when founder Colt Brown, a black-and-grey portrait artist, built the brand to solve his own pre-mixed wash problem. Empire's framing is fine-art-first: limited palette, traditional pigment naming, deliberate technique.
Eikon stocks all three 4-stage wash sets, all twelve individual wash stages, the four single blacks, and Titanium White. The complete blacks, washes, and white range ships same-day across Canada. Empire is Eikon's wash specialist, the brand artists reach for when the job is portrait, realism, or dark-illustrative work and they want pre-mixed value steps rather than mixing on the fly. Pair Empire washes with your choice of needles, cartridges, and machines for a dialed-in greyscale setup.
