Portrait Tattoo Ink - Portrait Tattoo Ink

Portrait tattoo ink has to read correctly through the client's own skin, which is why a portrait range is judged on the values it can reach rather than on how bright it looks. Eternal carries the widest one here: twelve named tones in the Portrait Skin Tones line, sold individually, beside the signature flesh ranges from Andrea Afferni, Rich Pineda and the M Series. Named tones let you match the skin in front of you and order that exact tone again next session.

Portrait Ink Is a Tone Range, Not a Colour

The tone you put in is not the tone that comes out. It is seen through the client's own skin, which carries its own colour, so the same tone lands differently on two people.

So a portrait range is judged on two things: whether it holds a value that reads right on the skin in front of you, and whether you can reach that value again next session — a portrait is rarely one sitting. Ranges of the same size answer those very differently, which is why it helps to see the three skin-tone lines we carry side by side.

Eternal's Portrait Skin Tones

Eternal's Portrait Skin Tones line runs twelve named tones, each sold individually: Almond, Sable, Rich Espresso, Light Peach, Nude Blush, Rust, Spice, Sea Shell, Rose Satin, Papaya, Enchanted Lilac and Wine Berry.

The names are the index: each is a specific tone rather than a position on a scale, so you choose by matching what is in front of you.

What Does a Named Palette Cover That a Ladder Doesn't?

A ladder moves in one direction only. Every rung is a depth, and depth is the whole of what it encodes — which means a colour that is not a point on that scale sits outside it entirely.

Half of this line is exactly that. Rose Satin, Enchanted Lilac and Wine Berry are a red and two purples; Nude Blush, Sea Shell and Papaya are pinks. Six of the twelve are colours no rung on any graduated light-to-dark steps range contains.

The other six overlap a ladder directly — Almond, Sable, Rich Espresso and Rust are browns, Light Peach and Spice oranges, and a depth range covers that ground too.

So the twelve are not twelve alternatives to a ladder. Six extend past what a ladder can reach, and six sit on top of ground it already holds — which is why most portrait palettes end up holding both. The ladder is also the only one of the two sold pre-selected, as a boxed five-step set.

Muted Earth and the Neutrals Beside It

Eternal's Muted Earth Tones sit next door to the portrait line and overlap it at the edges. The range comes as a twelve-colour set, and Peachy Flesh from it carries into portrait work directly.

The signature flesh ranges reach the same problem from another direction. Afferni's and Pineda's were each assembled by one artist for their own portrait work, so each is dense where that artist's clients sat and thin outside it — worth checking against the skin you actually see rather than assuming even coverage.

Sorted a different way, the same tones also split along warm and cool undertones. That is the other route into the same tones, and it is where the hue side of the range is covered.

Where White and Black Sit in Portrait Work

Both ends of the range are thinner than the middle, and that is worth knowing before you plan a palette around them.

On the dark end, Eternal's Triple Black from the Afferni line is carried and tagged for portrait work as well as black and grey. On the light end, no skin-tone line here includes a white — white sits in the general colour range, outside the portrait tones entirely.

If white is doing structural work in your palette, source it deliberately — a skin range should not be assumed to cover it.

Buying Portrait Ink in Canada

These tones sell as singles, shipped from Kingston, Ontario. Ordering needs a verified Pro Account — Eikon sells ink to working artists only, and that is about trade access rather than price.

Each one is sealed on its own, so a leak in transit costs a single tone instead of the order. Heat packs are free from November through March.

Sizes vary across the line; each product page lists what that tone comes in. Eternal is notified with Health Canada, as is every brand in the ink range.
