Black Gold Preservative-Free Formula

Black Gold uses witch hazel and citrus peel extracts instead of parabens or benzisothiazolinone. Microbial protection comes from ascorbic, citric, and lactic acids, finished with gamma irradiation. It's the same carbon black pigment as the rest of the line and the price reflects the natural preservation system. If you're working on clients with sensitivities to conventional preservatives, this is the black to stock.

Tribal XXX and Liner Black

Tribal XXX is Panthera's highest-pigment black. It was named for tribal fills but works for any blackwork application where you need maximum saturation. Liner Black uses a different molecular density, it pushes easier through liner needles while still healing dark. The difference isn't darkness, it's how the ink moves through the cartridge. Both are workhorses for bold linework and solid fills.

Sumy Greywash and Nonnweiler Realism Series

Light Sumy and Dark Sumy form Panthera's paired greywash system. Lower pigment than the fill blacks, designed to dilute themselves across a tonal range without adding water. You control the value by adjusting your machine settings and pass count, not by mixing ratios. The name "Sumy" is Panthera's Italian transliteration of Japanese sumi ink (not a typo).

Ralf Nonnweiler's Smooth Blending and Smooth Finish extend the greywash ramp into hyperrealism territory. Smooth Blending handles pores, wrinkles, and skin texture without leaving visible dotwork. Smooth Finish is the final-pass ink for the lightest highlight areas and it ensures those zones don't heal back to bare skin. Together with the Sumy pair, you have a four-tier system from darkest shadow to softest highlight.

Realism Workflow in Four Tiers

Dark Sumy anchors your deepest shadows. Light Sumy builds mid-tones. Smooth Blending adds texture detail in the lighter zones. Smooth Finish saturates the highlights. Each tier is a distinct pigment concentration. You're not diluting one bottle four different ways. The system gives you repeatable results across long portrait sessions without constant mixing.

Panthera's standard size is 150 ml (roughly 5 oz). That's larger than the 2 oz and 4 oz bottles common across other brands.
